Lyrics

I dropped a penny in the machine,
and Madame Boardwalk began to speak.
She moved her hands and turbaned head kind of slow, and kind of weak
as she warned me of the havoc that some woman would soon wreak.

From her lit up box she mentioned that
this wench would come to town
When she was done,- you would see
every street that she went down

Oh, Madame Boardwalk, a penny for your thoughts-
Did you know her name was Sandy
Did you know she couldn’t be caught?

We used to ride the fire engine
Pull the cord and clang the bell
Then run on down to the jumping frogs
And the haunted house from hell

As the years went by, we fell in love
And tried to hide the fear
As the rides took us up higher
And we held each other near

We’d have a cheese steak at Midway
and a Kohrs just for fun
Then try our luck at Leo’s
Hey, look at the prize we won

Oh Madame Boardwalk, a penny for your thoughts
Did you know her name was Sandy
Did you know she couldn’t be caught?

When the lights went down and you began to drown
Did you curse her for all time
The Skeeball games never asked for much
They only cost a dime
Who shot the last bullet at Piano Sam’s arcade?
The tin cans flew up in the air
And those memories will not fade

Oh Madame Boardwalk, I’d give everything I own
To find you and to fix you up and to welcome you back home….

Then Madame Boardwalk, well I’d love to hear you say
When summer comes and the lights go on
It will be like yesterday

Oh, Madame Boardwalk
Our memories will… not… fade…
